Shad Recap + Striper Season 2023

Writer's picture: Capt. Will PaulCapt. Will Paul

The 2023 Shad season is winding down this week as we turn our attention to the spring Striped Bass migration and our resident warm water species.

We had an excellent Shad season this year. Both rivers fished very well and our guests were able to experience excellent Hickory Shad fishing on the Roanoke and have opportunities to target trophy American Shad on the Tar. It was wonderful to see both new and familiar faces on the skiff enjoying one of our region's most unique fisheries. Shad fishing is near and dear to us and we are grateful for the opportunity to show anglers of all skill levels this often overlooked world class fishery.

We have been hard at work the past few weeks locating the best Striper bite on our local rivers as we transition seasons. We have also been dialing in our Largemouth program and have been having a lot of fun targeting these fish in conjunction with the migratory Striper. We will be running trips for both Striper and Largemouth from now through the first week of June. As many folks know, this is one of our best fisheries in the state and is a great time to catch a lot of Striped Bass on the fly or have shots at trophy Largemouth Bass.

We still have some open dates this year- booking information can be found at the link below! (prime Weldon availability: 04/18, 04/21, 04/27, 05/09)

I want to thank everyone who came out for our Spring Shad season- it was our busiest year to date and I look forward to continuing to grow and develop this program over the coming years. I’m looking forward to another busy Striper season fishing with new and returning guests.

I look forward to seeing y’all on the water!
